Missing “mount” option in right click menu, Windows 10

6

The other day I realized my MOUNT option for ISO’s and IMG’s was missing.   This is due to a messed up file association/default program.  Super easy to fix.

  1. Click start.
  2. Type “Default programs” and hit enter
  3. Scroll all the way down (scroll bar may not show up, but its there)
  4. Click “Set defaults by app”
  5. Scroll down to find “Windows disc image burner” and click it once
  6. Click “Choose defaults for this program”
  7. Make sure there is a check box next to .img and .iso and click SAVE

  1. I need to Mount an .img file and can’t because the option isn’t there. Although your fix didn’t work for me and my old laptop, it is valuable info so thanks for sharing. I thought I’d struck the golden answer but for whatever reason it didn’t show me checkboxes next to IMG or ISO as I understood your instructions to say.

I have Windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1). I’m the Admin. I followed your exact (almost exact) instructions. It was slightly different. When I clicked “Windows disc image burner” I clicked “Manage” which took me to the File Type and Protocol Associations window. The first file type was .img and when I clicked the ” + Choose a Default” another box appeared with a choice to search Windows Explorer OR Look for an app in the Microsoft Store. Still, there was never a checkbox. The 2nd (and last) file type on this window was .iso and it has a video converter app assigned to it (I will uninstall). Again, no checkbox options. I have no clue how to fix in order to be able to Mount my file. It should have been so simple. I guess more research is needed on my part. (A new laptop would be better! LOL!)

    Thanks again!

    1. Ok, got it working now. “Windows Explorer” is the correct default option for Windows Disc Image Burner .img and .iso files. Once I chose that for each, it works perfectly. Not sure why your options or display is shown differently. I’m just happy it’s fixed now. ?

      Cheers!
